IHS powder puff football Wednesday

The annual Ironton High School powder puff football game will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

The senior and freshman classes take on the team comprised of the junior and sophomore classes.

Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds go to the student council to be used for Christmas food baskets.

Basketball officials offer beginner class

The Ironton and Portsmouth chapters of the Southeastern Ohio Basketball Officials Association are offering a class for beginning officials.

The class is required for all new officials who wish to referee OHSAA sanctioned high school and middle school games. Fee is $65.

Classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 30, and will last approximately six weeks. There will be 25 classroom hours and numerous scrimmages to work.

Special needs plans free pheasant hunt

Special Needs Youth Sportsmen, Inc., will conduct a free field day on European pheasant hunt for all interested special needs youth at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the K-Hill Indoor Shooting Range facility at 9905 State Route 141 in Kitts Hill.

The event will begin with target shooting, clay bird shooting and archery sessions.

A free lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

A total of 100 pheasants will be released in a controlled manner for the participants with the aid of adult mentors to shoot.

The event is free to all participants and families. All equipment and materials will be furnished for all participants.

Carpenter collection at Old Fashion Days

John Carpenter — owner of the world’s largest private sports memorabillia collection — will have a display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2-3 at the First and Peoples Bank as part of the Greenup County Old Fashion Days.

 

Basketball skills at FBC Fitness Center

A fall basketball skills and vertimax training will begin in September and October at the Faith and Fitness Center of the First Baptist Church in Ironton.
