CHESAPEAKE — If this was a baseball game, not only would it have been a shutout but somewhat of a no-hitter as well.

The Chesapeake defense not only pitched a shutout but held South Point without a first down as the Panthers posted a 35-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Pointers on Friday.

“Defensively we played the way we should. We shut them down pretty well,” said Panthers’ coach Andy Clark.

“Offensively, once we stopped fumbling the ball we were fine.”

The rainy weather saw the Panthers lose three of five fumbles and the Pointers lose all three of their fumbles.

“South Point is aggressive defensively. We turned it over three times and they turned it over, so that was pretty much a wash,” said Clark.

Chesapeake (5-1, 1-1) had 355 total yards — all on the ground. The defense held the Pointers (2-4, 0-2) to just 21 net total yards — all on the ground as the two teams combined for only four passes and no completions.

Ty Wilcoxon ran 15 times for 104 yards and a touchdown to lead a balanced Panthers’ ground game.

J.W. Bartram had 10 carries for 90 yards, Maccoy Brown ran 13 times for 70 yards and a score, Casey McComas eight attempts for 61 yards and two TDs while Will Scott added 30 yards on five tries and a score.

Brown’s 9-yard touchdown run with 3:10 left in the first quarter gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

McComas ran 16 yards and Wilcoxon darted 19 for second quarter touchdowns and it was 21-0 at the half.

McComas added a 1-yard keeper for a score with 1:20 left in the third quarter and Scott’s 3-yard touchdown run with 3:43 capped the scoring.

Wesley Stephens was 5-for-5 on conversions.
