Lady Pointers split OVC games

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers lost, but they didn’t go down without a fight.

The Lady Pointers fell to the unbeaten Gallipolis Blue Angels in four sets on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game, 25-18, 14-25, 25-19, 25-21.

“Our girls fought hard tonight against a Gallipolis team that was undefeated,” said South Point coach Allen Perry.

Brooklyn Badgett had 28 assists and racked up 15 digs for the Lady Pointers.

Olivia Abner led the team with 15 kills and 2 blocks. Leah Lawson topped the defense with 17 digs.

In the reserve match, Gallipolis won in three sets, 25-23, 12-25 and 25-15.

PROCTORVILLE — Down but not out.

The Lady Pointers lost their first two sets but rallied to beat the Fairland Lady Dragons in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game on Tuesday.

Fairland won 25-20 and 25-17 before South Point won the next three sets 25-17, 25-23 and the tiebreaker 15-10.

Olivia Abner led the offense with 16 kills and 3 blocks. Mackenzie Fugitt had 13 kills, Brooklyn Badgett had 8 aces and 31 assists, and Leah Lawson got 6 aces and 5 kills.

Defensively, Lawson had 16 digs, Badgett 14 digs, Hope Aylsworth 10 digs and Madison Kearns 9 digs.

In the reserve game, South Point won two close sets 25-22, 25-23.

The Lady Pointers host Portsmouth on Thursday in an OVC game.
