SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers put up big numbers to get a big win.

With plenty of contributions, the Lady Pointers posted a big Ohio Valley Conference volleyball win by downing the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 18-25, 25-15, 25-21 and 26-24.

“This was a big win for us. Portsmouth has a really nice program and one of the region’s premier players in sophomore Aiden Fields,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Allen Perry.

“Tonight was just our night. Our girls played with intensity and determination. That was a great combination in this game of momentum.”

The Lady Pointers posted 17 aces with Mackenzie Fugitt getting 5, Brooklyn Badgett and Leah Lawson 4 each and Madison Kearns 3.

Olivia Abner controlled the net with 5 blocked shots and led the team with 11 kills. Fugitt racked up 10 kills and Badgett had 29 assists.

Defensively, Leah Lawson had 18 digs, Hope Aylsworth 16, Badgett 13 and Kearns 10.

“Leah has really done a nice job for us defensively over the past couple of weeks. She has really come up big for us in big situations in the backcourt,” said Perry.

In the reserve game, South Point won 25-17, 25-7.

South Point will co-host a Volley for a Cure match with Ironton on Wednesday.

Proceeds will support an effort by both teams to raise money to be donated to The Pink Ribbon Fund at St. Mary’s Hospital.
