Lady Pointers win ‘Pink Out’

SOUTH POINT — This night was about feeling pink.
The South Point Lady Pointers won the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game against the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, but the real outcome came from the two teams combining to raise nearly $1,000 for the Pink Ribbon Fund at St. Mary’s Hospital for the fight against breast cancer.
The Lady Pointers won the game 25-20, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-14.
Senior Olivia Abner enjoyed her senior night by getting 15 kills and one block to lead the offense for South Point.
Rachael Wheeler had 13 kills and 2 blocks, Mackenzie Fugitt had 13 kills, and Brooklyn Badget added 42 setting assists and 10 aces.
Defensively, Leah Lawson had 18 digs and Badgett 14 digs for the Lady Pointers.
In the reserve game, South Point won 25-16, 17-25 and 25-4.
The Lady Pointers visit Chesapeake on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. in the Division III sectional tournament.
