The seniors shined on senior night.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers honored seniors Lynsey Booker, Ophelia Weatherholt and Emma Saxby prior to their soccer game on Wednesday and the seniors were instrumental in an 8-0 win over the Northwest Lady Mohawks.

The trio combined for five goals and four assists in their final regular season game.

“This was a great night all around,” said Female Flyers’ coach Kyle Weatherholt. “The seniors played well but everyone did a nice job. We were able to open up some space for Lynsey.”

St. Joseph took a 3-0 lead in the first half on goals by Weatherholt, Saxby and Kaylee Sheridan.

Booker had two assists.

“In the first half we were fortunate that we finished our chances. (Northwest) did a good job of keeping us under pressure and contested everything. They created several scoring chances but we just couldn’t put them away,” said coach Weatherholt.

Booker scored two goals to begin the second half with assists by Sheridan and Weatherholt.

Saxby then had an unassisted goal to make it 6-0. Ivie Hopkins scored with an assist from Weatherholt and Ashley Blankenship had an unassisted goal to cap the scoring.

“The second half our girls came out and played a little better in possession. We were able to put a few passes together and keep the ball on the attacking side more,” said coach Weatherholt.

“Saxby was excellent on the right wing. She was consistently able to beat a defender one-on-one. Ivie Hopkins has been outstanding all year on the defensive side and I was glad to see her get a much-deserved goal. Sydney Wain put in another good shift running up and down the left wing.”

St. Joseph will host South Point at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Division III sectional tournament.

The game originally was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
