The St. Joseph Female Flyers added a second striker, but it was Lynsey Booker who did most of the striking.

Booker scored three goals to lead the Female Flyers to a 4-2 win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Tuesday in the Division III sectional soccer tournament.

“We made a tactical change adding a second striker to try to free Lynsey up a little more up front. We continued to keep the ball in the attacking side,” said Female Flyers’ coach Kyle Weatherholt.

Booker scored 20 minutes into the game off a throw-in by Emma Saxby.

With five seconds left in the half, Ophelia Weatherholt had a corner kick that enabled Kaylee Sheridan to score and it was 2-0.

“As the first half went on, we came into the game more and kept it in the attacking mode,” said coach Weatherholt. “Natalie Heaberlin and Ivie Hopkins did a great job of winning balls in the midfield and keeping us on the attack.”

Employing a second striker to start the second half, Booker got a pass from Sheridan and scored to make it 3-0 at the 55-minute mark.

Booker scored again when she buried a penalty kick 10 minutes later after Weatherholt made a penetrating run into the box and was brought down for the penalty.

“Overall, I’m happy with our performance but we still need to get better if we want to advance next week,” said coach Weatherholt.

“South Point came ready to play and we were a little slow getting into the game. They did a good job keeping pressure on us and they didn’t give us time on the ball. They never slowed down and battled back.”

St. Joseph will play the winner of Northwest and Eastern at 7 p.m. next Tuesday in Waverly.
