It’s crunch time in league play and playoff play.

Several local teams are in position to win or tie for league titles and earn playoff berths but it all comes down to winning and — in some cases — getting a little help from other teams.

Rock Hill (4-3) dropped one spot to No. 6 in Region 17 of Division V, but the Redmen can still qualify for the postseason with wins against South Point (2-6) and Fairland (0-8) to end the regular season.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers (4-4) made a big jump from No. 16 to No. 11 in Region 17 with their win over Rock Hill last week.

Ironton can clinch the Ohio Valley Conference title and probably qualify for the postseason by winning their final two games against the Chesapeake Panthers (7-1) and South Point Pointers.

To date in Region 17, Zane Trace and Wheelersburg have clinched playoff spots.

Alexander (7-1) is third and plays Trimble (7-1) and Meigs (5-3) its final two games. The Spartans lost 9-3 at Chesapeake in week two.

Harrison Central (7-1) is fourth and plays Indian Creek (5-3) and winless Buckeye Local. West Lafayette Ridgewood (7-1) has Malvern (4-4) and Newcomerstown (2-6) left.

No. 7 Coshocton (5-3) has Claymont and River View left. Both are 1-7.

River Valley (6-2) is eighth and plays Athens (5-3) and Shadyside (2-6) to close the season. No. 9 Oak Hill (4-4) as Eastern (3-5) and Green (2-6) remaining.

Northwest (5-3) is 10th and plays Green and Symmes Valley (5-3).

Point averages this week show Zane Trace 18,0125, Wheelersburg 16.8875, Harrison Central 13.5064, Ridgewood 12.1125, Rock Hill 11.2222, Coshocton 10.4747, Oak Hill 8.8447, Northwest 7.4640 and Ironton 7.0865.

Moving to Region 21 of Division VI, Chesapeake has a simple path: win and you’re in.

The Panthers host Ironton on Friday and visit the Coal Grove Hornets (4-4) to end the regular season. They will need to win both games to clinch a berth and earn at least a share of the OVC. If they win one game, they may have to get some help.

Coal Grove Hornets is sitting at No. 15 due to their win last week over winless Fairland. The Hornets — who have a 6.8304 average — must beat Portsmouth (3-5) this week and Chesapeake in order to have a chance at the playoffs.

Lucasville Valley (7-0) leads the region at 16.8413 and faces Wheelersburg this week.

Fort Frye (8-0) is second at 16.25, Grandview Heights (7-1) is third at 13.9735, Paint Valley (7-1) is fourth at 13.8875, Chesapeake has a 12.7254 average, Hannibal River (7-1) is sixth at 12.5799, Bishop Ready (5-3) is seventh at 11.3838 and Newark Catholic (6-2) is eighth at 10.2857.

In Region 25 of Division VII, the Symmes Valley Vikings (5-3) Southern Ohio Conference title hopes are slim, but the playoffs are within reach if they beat Scitoville East and Northwest to finish the season.

The Vikings are currently No. 9 in the region with a 6.6097 average. Lancaster Fisher Catholic (6-2) is eighth with a 6.7519 average but has Harvest Prep (6-2) and Whitehall-Yearling (4-4) to close the season, both possible losses.

Trimble has clinched a playoff spot and leads the region with a 12.8625 average.

Danville (8-0) is next at 11.4250 followed by Caldwell (7-1) at 10.5875, Belpre (6-2) at 8.6351, Sciotoville East (5-3) at 7.3916, Harvest Prep at 7.3409 and Corning Miller (6-2) at 7.0128.

The top eight teams in each region in each division qualify for the postseason.
