Teens awaiting the release of the final installment of the Hunger Games film series will have an opportunity to celebrate at Lawrence County libraries next month.
Jan Gullett, who manages teen programs for the library, said branches of the library system will host The Hunger Games Arena themed around the Nov. 20 release of the film.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” starring Jennifer Lawrence depicts the second half of the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, a best-selling series of books by Suzanne Collins. The books, along with the Twilight series, have been credited with drawing teens to reading.
Gullett said the events will allow participants, aged 13 – 18, to “compete as Tributes,” and will feature a trivia contest and physical challenges.
Points will be awarded to players and prizes will be offered at the end.
Gullett said there is no cost to participate, but asked those interested to call their local library branch to register in advance.
The Chesapeake branch of the library will host the event at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 followed by Proctorville on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. and Ironton on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m.
Events are also scheduled for Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the Symmes Valley library and Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. at the South Point library.
Gullett said teens are one of the harder demographics to draw to the library, and movie tie-ins are a good way to introduce them to the programs available.
“It allows us to show them all the library has to offer,” she said.
