Steven Thacker

June 6, 1952—Nov. 17, 2015

Steven Lyle Thacker, 63, of Kitts Hill, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015. The Roanoke, Virginia, native was born June 6, 1952, a son of the late Lyle Boyce Thacker and Sue Mawyer Thacker. He is survived by his wife, Jana Hartwig Thacker, whom he married March 11, 2000.

Steven is a graduate of Chesapeake High School, Marshall University and the Tri-State Bible College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in theology. He was an overhead crane operator for Inco Alloy for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Oakland Chapel Church, where he was an adult Sunday School teacher, on the delegate of Missions Board and a member of Willow Wood Bluegrass Gospel Group. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, cooking, singing and playing guitar. He was a Dawson-Bryant Youth League coach and the former owner of Strings and Things in Chesapeake.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Callie Jo Thacker, of Kitts Hill and Andrea (Jessie) Alden, of St. Albans, West Virginia; three sons: Nathan Thacker, of Fort Myers, Florida, Joshua Thacker, of Chesapeake and Benjamin (Michelle) Thacker, of Huntington; a stepdaughter, McKenzie Reed, of Willow Wood; a brother, David Thacker, of Virginia; an aunt, Joyce Whitley, of Chesapeake; an uncle and aunt, Jim and Penny Thacker, of South Point; parents-in-law, Robert and Jeanette Hartwig, of Kitts Hill; and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Lenny Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Chapel Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Denise Cox

July 5, 1950 – Nov. 16, 2015

Denise H. Cox, 57, of South Point, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia with her family at her side.

She was born July 5, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a daughter of the late Earl Hutton and the late Opal June Vance. Denny was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who held a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an sssociate degree in the Medical field. She was a Christian and attended the Hanging Rock Apostolic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cox.

Those left to mourn her passing are a son, Cody Cox; a daughter, Tracy Brown, three sisters, Sandy Hutton-Thomas, Joyce Gumbert and Donna Johnson; two grandchildren, Jetti Brown and Gavin Branham; and a host of family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday in the Hanging Rock Cemetery with Jeremy Klaiber officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Brown Funeral Chapel on Friday. The funeral procession will leave at 12:45 p.m.

Her family has entrusted her care to Brown Funeral Chapel.

 

Anthony Ferguson

Anthony G. Ferguson, 52, of Salt Rock, West Virginia, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastern Gates United Baptist Church 4620 West Pea Ridge Huntington.
