Gary Willis

Nov. 27, 1936 — Nov. 23, 2015

Gary Lee Willis, 78, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born Nov. 27, 1936, the son of Chester L. and Anna Brownstead Willis. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Laura C. Murer Willis, whom he married July 18, 1964.

Gary was a 1955 graduate of Ironton High School and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a former storekeeper at the Alpha Portland Cement Plant for 15 years and at Aristech Chemical Plant for 29 years, retiring in 1999. He was a lifelong member of the Elks #177, a social member of the K of C and his hobbies included photography and woodworking. He also loved the Buckeyes, Reds and was an avid sports fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marlene Holley and Cleo Bailey; and a brother, Daniel Wicoff.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John (Amy) Willis, of Cincinnati and David Willis, of Daytona Beach, Florida; a daughter, Laura (Josh) Bergman, of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jordan Willis, Ben Willis, Evan Willis, Ellie Bergman and Rex Bergman; and a brother, Jerry (Helen) Willis, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. Russell Canterberry

Russell Franklin Canterberry, 44, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods on Friday 1 p.m. with pastor Dwayne Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Cyrus Family Cemetery in Louisa.
