PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons had an itch and they did more than just scratch the surface.

Anxious to play their first game of the season, the Lady Dragons came out of the gate on fire by making 13 3-point goals en route to a 75-33 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday.

“We were itching to play. It seemed like we were the last team in the state of Ohio to play. We just wanted to play a game,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“I was really impressed with their energy, maybe too much in the first half since we had 12 fouls. But we did a great job defensively holding Rock Hill to three field goals in the half.”

Emily Chapman led Fairland with 19 points including five 3-point goals despite playing less than two quarters due to foul trouble.

Emma Fulton scored 15 points as she hit three 3-pointers and Allie Marshall added 10 points with three triples.

Sarah Warnock, Taylor Perry and Alesha Simpson all had 8 points for the Lady Dragons.

“We shot the ball really well and we were pretty balanced. We have a good amount of depth,” said Buchanan.

Kaci Russell scored 13 points and Anna Darby 11 points to lead Rock Hill (3-1, 0-1).

Chapman — who picked up two early fouls — scored 5 points while Perry and Simpson had 4 each in the first quarter as Fairland took a 19-6 lead.

Fulton had 6 points as the Lady Dragons went up 35-14 at the half.

The Lady Dragons outscored the Redwomen 22-9 in the third quarter as Chapman scored 14 points as she drained four 3-pointers.

Fulton added 6 more points in the fourth quarter.

On Monday, Rock Hill hosts Gallipolis and Fairland visits Ironton.
