CHESAPEAKE — Just like the instructions on the side of a gift package: some assembly required.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers had to pull together in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Gallipolis Blue Angels 46-37 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“In the fourth quarter we were able to put a few things together and hit a few shots,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball.

Dominique Murphy led the Lady Panthers with 16 points. Kaylee Curry had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists.

Atiya Spaulding added six rebounds and six steals. Natalee Hall also had six steals and three assists while Brooke Webb blocked a pair of shots.

Chesapeake (2-0, 1-0) trailed by a point at the half and led by three points after three quarters before outscoring Gallipolis 16-10 in the fourth quarter.

“The first half we couldn’t make anything and our effort wasn’t there. In the second half the effort came around and the shots started to fall,” said Ball.

“Murphy got in the flow. Jozy Jones didn’t score but rebounded well and hustle and made a few plays bright spot. Hall hit some big free throws.”

Adrienne Jenkins had 9 points for the Blue Angels in their first-ever OVC game.

Chesapeake led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter but Jalea Caldwell had 6 points in the second quarter as the Blue Angels rallied to take a 21-20 lead at the half.

The Lady Panthers rallied to take a 30-27 lead at the end of the third quarter.

But Murphy hit a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Hall was 6-of-6 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.

Chesapeake plays at South Point on Monday.

Gallipolis faces River Valley at Rio Grande on Saturday and visits Rock Hill on Monday.
