A high school basketball game is scheduled to last 32 minutes. This one was over way before time expired.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers forced 14 turnovers in the first quarter and built an insurmountable 33-2 lead en route to a 69-16 rout of the Portsmouth Lady Trojans on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Our press was very effective early. Once we got the lead we were able to back off and work on some other things,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham who substituted freely throughout the game.

Lexie Barrier led a balance Ironton attack with 18 points and nine rebounds. Lexie Wise had 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

All nine players scored for Ironton (3-0, 1-0). Cheyenne Scott had 7 points and nine rebounds, Jordan Hannan scored 8 points, Sydney Webb 7 points, and Zakia Lee and Alyssa Lewis 6 points each.

Jasmine Eley scored 9 points for Portsmouth. Semajah Parker had six rebounds.

Jordan Hannan had a steal and layup for a 2-0 lead but a layup by Parker tied the game at the 7:05 mark.

Ironton then went on a 33-0 run that went into the second quarter before Portsmouth scored again with 5:41 left in the half as Eley hit a 3-pointer.

A layup by Wise and a foul shot by Kaylin Easterling put Ironton ahead 43-8 at the break.

The Lady Fighting Tigers led 54-15 at the end of the third quarter and their biggest lead was the final score as Lee scored the final 6 points of the game.

Ironton hosts Fairland on Monday in a league game.
