PEDRO — The statistics sheet didn’t look good except for that one key stat: a win.

Despite not playing well overall, the Rock Hill Redwomen still managed to beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 52-44 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We found a way to win. It was ugly, ugly, ugly, but we got it,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron. “We forced a lot of turnovers, but we ended up giving it back a lot and we missed four wide-open layups.”

Kaci Russell had a game-high 18 points to lead a balanced Rock Hill offense. Anna Darby, Sami Dillon and Taylor Hall all scored 10 points each.

“Sami Dillon played her best game. She did a lot of things that helped us out. We had 22 turnovers and still won. Hall had a nice game in her first start

Gallipolis (0-3. 0-2) was led by Hunter Copley and Carly Shriver with 12 points each.

The Blue Angels jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead, but Darby had 8 points and Russell 5 more as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 27-22 at the half.

The Redwomen defense took over in the third quarter and held Gallipolis to three points en route to take a 37-30 lead.

“Holding them to three points in the third quarter was big,” said Damron.

Hall and Russell combined for 11 points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill clinched the win.

Russell also had 5 steals and 4 rebounds while Darby also had 4 rebounds.

On Thursday, Rock Hill visits Chesapeake and Gallipolis hosts Ironton in league games.
