SP girls knock off Panthers

SOUTH POINT — Make your free throws and don’t turn the ball over.

Coaches preach those two areas and the South Point Lady Pointers were listening as they beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 50-40 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point (1-1, 1-1) connected on 21-of-25 free throw attempts and had just 13 turnovers.

Chesapeake (2-1, 1-1) was only 3-for-4 at the foul line and the Lady Panthers were guilty of 22 turnovers.

Madison Kearns scored 14 points and Haley Rawlins had 12 points including 7-of-8 from the foul line to lead the Lady Pointers. Brookly Badgett added 11 points.

Kaylee Curry scored 13 points and Atiya Spaulding had 10 to lead the Lady Panthers.

On Thursday, Portsmouth visits South Point and Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill.
