SOUTH POINT — This game was about taking control.

After watching Symmes Valley assume control early, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers took control and wouldn’t relinquish it as they beat the Lady Vikings 63-35 on Saturday at the South Point Shootout.

Chesapeake began the game with a 6-0 run, but Jensyn Shepherd scored 4 points as the Lady Vikings rallied to take an 11-9 lead.

“We started slow and Symmes Valley controlled the boards early. But we hit a few shots and rebounded better in the second quarter,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“In the second quarter we took over the game and then we responded well after halftime and played well. We put together a complete effort on both ends of the court.”

Kaylee Curry and Jozy Jones scored 8 points each — Jones was 4-of-4 at the foul line — and Natalee Hall added 6 more points in the second quarter as Chesapeake rallied to take a 31-20 halftime lead.

Hall matched Symmes Valley’s output in the third quarter with 5 points and the Lady Panthers built a 48-25 cushion.

Curry added 5 points in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake continued to pull away.

Curry led Chesapeake (5-2) with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocks. Jones had a career-high 15 points while Hall finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Atiya Spaulding also had 10 rebounds for Chesapeake.

Shepherd scored 10 points to lead Symmes Valley (6-4).
