It was a point explosion that left too much rubble to overcome.

The Huntington St. Joseph Fighting Irish exploded for 33 points in the second quarter and went on to beat the Ironton St. Joseph Flyers 63-48 on Monday in the 8th annual Ironton Classic.

The Flyers (2-4) trailed just 16-9 after the first quarter, but the Irish made 14-of-22 field goal attempts in the second quarter including 3-of-6 form 3-point range as they opened up a 49-21 halftime lead.

The Flyers trailed 13-4 in the first quarter and got within 13-9 on a layp by Tyler Ward and a trifecta by Judge Williams at the 1:29 mark.

But the Irish used a 3-pointer by John Dawson to end the quarter to start a 15-2 run that gave them a 31-11 lead with 5:23 left in the half.

The Irish were up 44-15 when Isaac Whaley and Clay Willis made 3-pointers for the Flyers. A layup by John Morrison gave the Irish their halftime lead.

The Irish scored 7 unanswered points to begin the second half and a 3-pointer by Casey Colquit made it 61-25.
