PEDRO — There wasn’t much on Rock Hill coach Greg Damron’s Christmas list and his Redwomen players were happy to play Santa.

The Redwomen celebrated Christmas early with an exciting 72-65 double overtime win over the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings on Monday.

“They gave me a good Christmas present. I told the girls that’s all I wanted,” said Damron.

Kaci Russell had 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the Redwomen (5-3). Anna Darby had a huge game with 20 points, 17 rebounds and 5 steals.

Jill Hairston scored 14 points on the strength of 4-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line. Sami Dillon had 10 rebounds and took a charge.

Symmes Valley (6-5) was paced by Breanna Brumfield with 15 points including three 3-pointers. Meranda Hayes scored 11 points and Kaitlyn Payne added 10.

“When Rock Hill and Symmes Valley girls play basketball, it brings out the best in both of us,” said Damron.

Russell had 7 points and Darby 5 as Rock Hill took a 17-13 first quarter lead.

Symmes Valley rallied to take a 27-26 halftime lead as Rock Hill managed just 9 points in the quarter — 7 by Russell.

Brumfield had 8 points in the third quarter as both teams scored 19 pionts and it was 46-45.

Hairston hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points in the third quarter while Darby added 6 points.

“It was given and take the whole game. There was no momentum swing,” said Damron.

Russell got 5 points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill tied the game at 53.

Taylor Hall scored all 5 of her points in the first overtime and the game remained deadlocked at 65.

The Redwomen held the Lady Vikings scoreless in the second overtime and came away with the win.

Next Monday, Rock Hill will play in the New Boston Tournament at 7:15 p.m. while Symmes Valley visits South Point.
