BIDWELL — That squeaking sound wasn’t coming from the gym doors but the Fairland Lady Dragons’ shooting.

Fairland showed the effects of a two-week layoff but they were able to shake off the rust and beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 50-38 on Wednesday.

“We never shoot well (at River Valley). We couldn’t make anything. But defensively we really guarded well,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Taylor Perry scored 19 points to lead Fairland (7-1). Emily Chapman added 9 points and Taylar Wilson 8 points.

Leia Moore scored 12 points and Erin Jackson 10 for River Valley (7-4).

Perry scored Fairland’s first 8 points with a pair of 3-pointers and a layup as the Lady Dragons took a 13-9 lead.

The lead was 21-15 at the half and 30-20 after three quarters.

Wilson and Chapman scored 5 points each in the fourth quarter and when River Valley was forced to foul Perry converted 7-of-8 free throws to seal the win.

Fairland hosts Gallipolis on Monday in a league game.
