PORTSMOUTH — The weather wasn’t the only thing that turned cold Saturday night.

The Hornets found themselves with a four-point lead after three quarters, but then their offense went cold in the fourth quarter as the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans rallied to edge Coal Grove 51-49.

Coal Grove (3-5) had three players in double figures led by Sam Angelo with 16 points. Daniel Rutherford had 11, Cole Gannon scored 10 while Aaron Music added 9 points.

Portsmouth Notre Dame was paced by Hamachai Buttayatee with a game-high 19 points and Trevor Turner was right behind with 18 points.

Notre Dame held a scant 15-14 lead after the first quarter as Turner scored 6 points. Gannon had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Rutherford scored 4 points for the Hornets.

Coal Grove’s defense held the Titans to just 5 points in the second quarter while Angelo and Rutherford scored 4 points each and the Hornets came back to take a 24-20 halftime lead.

Each team scored 17 points in the third quarter with Music and Angelo scored 7 each. Turner had 10 points for the Titans who trailed 41-37.

But Coal Grove — who led by a many as 10 points at one time in the game — managed just three fields goals and was 2-of-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter while Buttayotee scored 8 points himself to lead the comeback.
