Russell holds on to edge Pointers

FLATWOODS, Ky. — When they say it’s free, you figure there has to be a catch. In the case of free throws, there is.

You have to make them.

South Point converted just 8-of-20 free throws while Russell made 19-of-28 as the Red Devils got past the Pointers 63-56 on Saturday in the Marvin Meredith Classic.

Tayshaun Fox scored 24 points and Elijah Adams had 15 points to lead South Point (3-5).

Russell (3-10) was led by Bobby Hale with 22 points while Ryan Stump and Landon Brewer scored 13 each.

The Red Devils were up 11-7 after the first quarter but the Pointers got within 24-23 at the half.

Russell held a 42-39 lead after three quarters and outscored the Pointers 21-17 in the fourth quarter.

South Point visits Fairland on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
