PROCTORVILLE — Not bad, but we can do better.
The South Point Pointers shot a nice 45 percent from the field. Unfortunately, the Fairland Dragons were 57 percent from the floor as they rolled past the Pointers 75-51 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Kollin Van Horn was 12-of-19 from the field and turned in a double-double as he scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Luke Thomas scored 15 points and Gunner Short had 12 points while holding the Pointers’ Elijah Adams to five points.
Keedrick Cunningham and Ty Staten had five assist each for the Dragons (6-1, 4-0).
“We played well defensively for three quarters. Offensively shot the ball pretty well,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed.
Tayshaun Fox scored a game-high 26 points to lead South Point (3-6, 2-2).
Fairland jumped out to a 24-12 first quarter lead as Van Horn scored 10 points.
The scoring slowed in the second quarter as the Dragons went up 34-19 at the half.
The Dragons picked up the pace in the third quarter and extended their lead to 54-30.
Van Horn had 8 more points in the fourth quarter to help offset 11 points by Fox as each team scored 21 points.
On Friday, Fairland plays at Portsmouth in a battle for first place while South Point hosts Gallipolis.
