CROWN CITY — This time when it came to “crunch time,” the St. Joseph Female Flyers didn’t crumble.

Faced with adversity throughout the game including the key fourth quarter, the Female Flyers responded each time and beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 48-41 on Monday.

The biggest series of events came at the start of the fourth quarter when South Gallia took the lead only to have St. Joseph rally to take the lead for good.

“We’ve been through this before. I told them, ‘Let’s slow this down.’ They reacted well. We calmed down and kept our composure. I was really happy with how we reacted to adversity,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.

Lynsey Booker scored 18 points and Morgan Turner had 14 points to lead the Female Flyers (6-8).

MiKayla Poling — who didn’t play in the first meeting — had 11 points and Ashley Northrup 10 points to lead the Lady Rebels (3-11).

South Gallia opened the game with a 10-0 run but Booker scored 8 points including a pair of 3-pointers and Turner added her own trifecta as St. Joseph got within 15-13.

Poling scored 5 points in the second quarter to give the Lady Rebels a 22-19 halftime lead.

Turner scored 6 points and Booker 5 in third quarter as St. Joseph rallied to take a 36-32 lead.

South Gallia went on a 5-0 run to begin the fourth quarter to take a 37-36 lead, but the Female Flyers used two big baskets by Megan Riley while Turner went 3-of-4 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.

The Female Flyers were 17-of-45 from the field for 38 percent but 10-of-14 from the foul line for 71 percent. They were 4-of-12 from behind the arc for 33 percent.

St. Joseph hosts Fairview, Ky., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in a varsity-only game.
