CHESAPEAKE — While Murphy’s Law usually means that anything that can go wrong will go wrong, it was different for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

Chesapeake turned to Dominique Murphy’s Law on Thursday as the Lady Panthers edged the South Point Lady Pointers 46-44.

Murphy scored a career-high 18 points as Chesapeake improved to 11-3 and 6-3 I the Ohio Valley Conference.

“We had some foul trouble with both Natalee Hall and Kaylee Curry and Murphy stepped up big for us,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

Curry finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds, Brooke Webb had 6 rebounds and Murphy had 5 boards. Webb also had 3 steals.

Haley Rawlins scored 15 points for South Point (7-6, 4-5) while Kate Mundy and Brooklyn Badgett had 11 points each.

“It was a very physical game. Both teams played in spurts. It was a big win for us. We’re happy with that,” said Ball.

Rawlins scored 7 points in the first quarter as the Lady Pointers took a 13-8 lead.

Murphy got 6 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake cut the deficit to 21-18 at the half.

The Lady Panthers got within 21-18 at the half and cut the deficit to 32-31 after three quarters.

Chesapeake rallied in the fourth quarter as Murphy scored 7 points while Curry was 3-of-4 and Jozy Jones 2-of-2 at the foul line.

On Saturday, Chesapeake hosts Tolsia at noon and South Point is at Russell, Ky., at 7:30.
