SOUTH POINT — It’s called on the job training.

The South Point Pointers learned some valuable lessons as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 58-46 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We got a big lead and let it slip away, and then we got another big lead and we still didn’t put them away,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.

“We’ve got to learn you can’t take your foot off the accelerator. Basketball is a game of runs and you have to find a way to stop the other team from making a big run. This game was a good lesson for our young players.”

Tayshaun Fox led South Point with 18 points while Elijah Adams had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Tanner Hall had eight points and eight rebounds for the Pointers (4-7, 4-3).

Mason Darby scored 23 points to lead the Redmen (0-12, 0-6).

South Point took a 6-0 lead to begin the game and led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter but the Redmen rallied to tie the game at the half, 23-23.

The defense held Rock Hill to 4 points in the third quarter while Fox scored 8 points as the Pointers pulled away to a 44-27 lead.

Rock Hill tried to rally in the fourth quarter by outscoring South Point 19-14 as Darby scored 9 points, but the Pointers managed to hold on for the win.

On Tuesday, Rock Hill hosts Fairland while South Point entertains Coal Grove in league games.
