PEDRO — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers have added a weapon. Sort of.

Actually, Bailey Mills has been playing all season but her offense has picked up in the past few weeks and she hit a season-high three 3-pointers as the Lady Panthers beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 61-54 on Monday.

Mills finished with 13 points as Chesapeake got the Ohio Valley Conference win.

“We’ve started to see Bailey’s offense come around and we’re excited about that,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball. “Bailey can shoot. She’s starting to get some confidence.”

Kaylee Curry had a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers (12-4, 7-3). Jozy Jones added 11 points and Natalee Hall had 10 points and four steals. Dominique Murphy had four rebounds and three assists.

Kaci Russell scored 21 points and Sami Dillon hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the Redwomen (8-6, 5-5).

Curry scored 12 points in the first quarter and Mills drained a pair of 3-pointers as Chesapeake jumped out to a 23-13 lead.

Curry also hit two trifectas as Chesapeake made five 3-pointers in the quarter.

Dillon had a couple of 3-pointers in the first quarter for Rock Hill.

Jones had six points in the second quarter and the defense held the Redwomen to three points as the lead grew to 37-16 at the half.

Russell scored nine points and Jilll Hairston got five or her seven points in the third as Rock Hill rallied to within 47-36.

Russell got 10 more points in the fourth quarter and Dillon had another 3-pointer as Rock Hill got as close as five points.

Curry and Mills scored five points each to help offset a poor 4-of-10 from the foul line.

“Hall was out with foul trouble and we were throwing the ball around. When she came back that settled us down,” said Ball.

On Thursday, Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth in a league game and entertains Greenup County on Saturday with the jayvee starting at noon.

Rock Hill visits Ironton on Thursday.
