There’s that second quarter again.

The reoccurring second quarter problems found the St. Joseph Flyers again on Tuesday in a 42-33 loss to the Fairview Eagles.

St. Joseph started the game well and took the lead, but then came the second quarter and the Flyers scored just two points and could never recover.

“We started the game with a lot of intensity and executed well offensively. Then we went numb in the second quarter again,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan.

“Chase (Walters) and Clay (Willis) both sad the whole second quarter and it hurt us. Once again, the kids battled their butts off. We just struggled big-time putting the ball in the basket.”

The Flyers shot just 28 percent from the field and merely 8-of-17 from the foul line for 47 percent.

“Their big kid altered a lot of our shots,” said Sheridan.

Tyler Ward and Chase Walters scored nine points each and Judge Williams had eight points for the Flyers (2-11).

Dylan Romine had a game-high 23 points to lead Fairview (8-11).

Williams scored six points as St. Joseph took a 12-10 first quarter lead.

But Ward’s field goal proved to be the only points for St. Joseph in the second quarter as Fairview rallied to go up 19-14 at the half.

Romine scored 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Eagles extended their lead to 33-22. Walters returned to scored five of the Flyers’ eight points.

Ward had four points and Clay Willis hit a trifecta asw the Flyers outscored the Eagles 11-9 in the fourth quarter, but the comeback attempt fell short.

Romine had six points in the quarter including 4-of-6 at the foul line.
