CHESAPEAKE — Hot-shooting plus Ky’re Allison equals bad news for opponents.

Allison scored 24 points and the Portsmouth Trojans shot 53 percent in a 64-55 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Panthers on Friday.

The Trojans (10-5, 6-2) also made 8-of-19 shots from behind the 3-point line for 42 percent.

Chesapeake (14-4, 8-3) shot well, too. The Panthers were 24-of-50 for 48 percent and 63 percent from 3-point range. However, they only managed eight attempts from behind the arc.

Besides Allison, Kendall Reynolds scored 14 points and Ethan Leonard 13.

Brad Meadows led Chesapeake with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Kolton Webb had 13 points but Gage Rhoades and Jake Stevens were held to eight points.

Rhoades led the game with 1:56 t play with a sore hamstring.

Portsmouth took a 20-14 first quarter lead and made it 33-25 at the half.

The Trojans were able to extend the lead to 46-31 with 3:09 on the third quarter clock.

Trailing 47-33 heading into the fourth quarter, Chesapeake cut the deficit to 51-43 on a putback by Casey McComas with 4:13 to play.

Portsmouth recovered and got baskets from Reese Johnson, Reynolds and Allison to open up a 57-43 cushion with 2:51 to go.

Allison scored 12 of Portsmouth’s 17 points in the fourth quarter, mostly driving to the basket through the teeth of the Panthers’ defense.

Chesapeake visits Boyd County, Ky., on Tuesday. Portsmouth entertains Ironton on Tuesday in a league game.
