ROME TOWNSHIP — The Sybene/Chesapeake Senior Center hosted their “Our Day” dinner on Friday, the first of many events they have scheduled for spring.

The dinner takes place at the end of every month at First Baptist Church in Proctorville, rather than the senior center’s location in Chesapeake.

“We outgrew our trailer for these dinners,” center director Darlene Green said.

This month’s dinner was a soup and salad, while next month’s, set for Feb. 26 at 10:30 a.m., will be a spaghetti dinner.

Entertainment for the dinner was provided by Ironton singing group Four of Us.

Green said the center will host a Valentine’s Day event in February at the Chesapeake location and an Easter dinner, set for March 18 at the church.

On May 17, she has organized Senior Day at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, in which local businesses and vendors will set up and allow seniors to see what they have to offer.

“That’s a big event for us,” Green said.

The event is paid for by donations from local businesses.

“We’re not making a profit off it,” Green said. “Last year we had more than 50 vendors.”

Green said door prizes will be offered, as well as free food.
