SCIOTOVILLE — It’s been a reoccurring theme and the St. Joseph Female Flyers would love to change it.

The Female Flyers experienced another pocket of scoring woes as they fell 50-42 to the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans on Monday.

“We always seem to have that one stretch where we just can’t score. But our girls played hard and never gave up,” said Female Flyers’ coach Nick Miller.

Lynsey Booker scored 19 points and had seven steals Morgan Turner scored 10 points to pace the Female Flyers (7-11).

Lauren Bush had seven rebounds and Megan Riley five rebounds for St. Joseph.

Petyon Helpinstein scored 28 points including 14-of-16 from the foul line to lead East. Shay Brown had 18 points as only three players scored for the Lady Tartans (10-7).

Booker scored five points as St. Joseph took a 5-0 lead to start the game, but Helpinstein was 8-of-8 form the line and Sydney Dingus got four points as East rallied to take a 16-7 lead.

East outscored St. Joseph 6-4 in the second quarter and it was 22-11 at the half.

Brown got 10 points and Helpinstein seven in the third quarter as East led 39-23.

Morgan Turner scored eight points including a pair of 3-pointers and Booker scored nine points — she was 7-of-8 at the foul line — as the Female Flyers got within seven on two occasions in the fourth quarter.

But Helpinstein got nine points as East held on for the win.

St. Joseph plays at Portsmouth West on Thursday.
