Rex Besco

Aug. 20, 1965 — Jan. 30, 2016

Rex Besco, 50, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 20, 1965, a son of the late Charles “Lefty” Besco and Rosella Depriest Besco. He was a 1983 graduate of Rock Hill High School, where he was in the National Honor Society. He is survived by his loving partner, Patrick Terkhorn.

Mr. Besco won numerous awards for outstanding work performance at Applied Card in Huntington, West Virginia. He loved camping and was a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, James “Rick” Cosner; and great nephew, William Rowe.

In addition to his partner, he is survived by three sisters, Rebecca Cosner, Rita Besco, and Regina Besco, all of Pedro; two brothers, Roger Besco, of Chesapeake, and Raymond Besco, of Ironton; special friend, Raymond “Jake” King, of Coal Grove; three special nephews, Ivan “D” McFann Jr, Richmond McFann and Erie Rowe; three special nieces, Stacy Rowe Ruggles, Tracy Rowe Smith and Candice McFann Chapman; 11 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews that he adored

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Lawson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and burial will be at Woodland Cemetery. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Patricia Reeder

July 3, 1948 — Jan. 31, 2016

Patricia Reeder, 67, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center of Ashland. The Ironton native was born July 3, 1948, the daughter of Marie Anthony Douglas, of Ironton and the late David Gilmore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy McCord.

Ms. Reeder was a graduate of Shawnee State University, where she achieved her associate degree. She was looking forward to her 50th year reunion this year and loved all the luncheons and dinners with her classmates. She sincerely apologizes for not being able to attend the function due to unforeseen circumstances. Please raise a glass in her stead. She loved Ohio State football and was a big cat enthusiast. She was a nurse for 33 years, retiring in 2012 from Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Gilmore and Robert Gilmore.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Nikki Lynn Scott, of Cumming, Georgia; a son, Anthony David (Bre) Scott, of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Mary Lou Roach, of Ironton; two brothers: Bill Gilmore, of Ironton and Brian Gilmore, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a stepson: Donny (Brittany) McCord, of Atlanta, Georgia; a stepdaugther: Shelly Sorrells, of Atlanta, Georgia; her cats, Google, Gracie, Special and Baron Fat Cat Von Lardass; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mabel Nichols

May 24, 1916 — Jan. 30, 2016

Mabel G. Nichols, 99, of Ironton, died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Jo-Lin Health Center. She was born May 24, 1916, the daughter of Roscoe Grayman in Ethel in Logan County, West Vriginia.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Ironton. She retired from Lawrence County General Hospital and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded by one sister, Edith Burruss. Survivors include one daughter, Penny (Sam) Heighton; one son, Gary (Mary Ellen) Nichols; five grandchildren, Kelli (Larry) Mullens, Candy (Mitchel) Schutz, Scott (Penny) Heighton, Beth Ann (Dave) Willis, and Bill (Jessie) Nichols; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Woodland Cemetery Sec. 12, with Matt O’Bryant Officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.

 

Elton Waugh

Elton “Wally” Waugh, 85, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with pastor Nathan McClay officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park and Harlan Waugh. Sandra Perry

Sandra Spradlin Perry, 61, of South Point, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016. A funeral will be at a later date. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge of arrangements.
