Irish, Clemons shoot by Dragons

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — It took a big start and a bigger finish.

The Huntington St. Joseph Fighting Irish scored 57 of their points in the first and fourth quarters as they beat the Fairland Dragons 85-65 on Wednesday.

The Irish (12-5) scored 25 points in the first quarter and erupted for 32 points in the fourth quarter thanks in part to making 12-of-23 shots from the 3-point line.

Keith Clemons scored 29 points including 12-of-15 from the foul line to lead the Irish. Deaundra Murphy had 18 points, John Dawson 11 and Jacob Streiter 10 points.

Fairland (14-4) was led by Kollin Van Horn with 19 points and five rebounds while Hunter Ashton had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Isaiah Howell added 14 points and Hayden James 10.

Clemons scored 11 points as St. Joe took a 25-18 lead. Van Horn had 10 points to keep the Dragons close.

The Irish led 39-29 at the half before the Dragons cut the deficit to 53-46 after three quarters.

Howell scored nine points in the fourth quarter but Clemons had 10 points as the Irish outscored the Dragons 32-19.

Fairland hosts Portsmouth on Friday for senior night.
