Herd falls to UTEP

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Dominic Artis scored a career-high 33 points with nine rebounds and UTEP topped Marshall 112-108 in a barnburner on Thursday night.

Both teams shot well — UTEP (12-11, 4-6 Conference USA) shot 56 percent from the field and made 11 of 18 3-point attempts, while Marshall (11-12, 7-3) made 53.5 percent and 11 of 28 from beyond the arc.

Earvin Morris scored 20 points with six assists for UTEP. Lee Moore had 17 points, Omega Harris added 15 and Terry Winn had 13.

James Kelly paced Marshall with 26 points. Jon Elmore had 21 points with six assists, Ryan Taylor scored 20 points with seven rebounds and five assists, C.J. Burks chipped in 16 points and Stevie Browning had 11.

Close throughout, Marshall led by one, 108-107, with 1:08 to go after a pair of free throws by Elmore — but the Thundering Herd didn’t score again, missing their last four shots. UTEP made 5 of 8 from the line in the last 51 seconds.
