CHESAPEAKE — The offense was definitely back.

Hitting 44 percent of their shots including 8-of-20 from the 3-point line, the Fairland Lady Dragons rolled past the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 67-35 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.

“They were hitting pretty well and we didn’t and that is pretty much what it amounted to,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball.

“They’ve got a lot a guards who can shoot the ball and they hurt us, especially from the 3-point line.”

Fairland was led by Emily Chapman with 15 points to lead a balanced offense. Taylar Wilson, Taylor Perry, Kelsey Warnock and Alesha Simpson all scored nine points each.

Kaylee Curry had 11 points and eight rebounds while Jozy Jones added eight points for Chesapeake (13-7, 8-6).

Fairland (17-3, 11-3) opened the game with an 8-0 run and extended the lead to 12-1. But Chesapeake cut the deficit to 12-9 on a 3-pointer by Kelsey Huff just before the buzzer.

The Lady Panthers trailed 15-14 midway in second quarter but the Lady Dragons went on an 11-1 spurt to close the half and took a 26-15 lead.

“They wheelers fell off. We had some turnovers and they hit some 3s and that was pretty much the turning point,” said Ball.

Chapman and Simpson combined for nine points in the third quarter as Fairland extended its lead to 43-25.

Perry had five of her points as Fairland outscored Chesapeake 24-10 in the fourth quarter.

Both teams will play in the Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout on Saturday at Ironton. Fairland meets Middletown Bishop Fenwick at noon and Chesapeake plays Minford at 1:45 p.m.
