SOUTH POINT — At the beginning of the season, the Ohio Valley Conference was expected to be a three-way battle between Fairland, Chesapeake and Portsmouth and it was.

But no one expected any of the three teams to go unbeaten through the grueling conference schedule.

Someone must have forgotten to tell Fairland.

The Dragons beat the South Point Pointers 58-33 on Saturday and completed a perfect record within the league.

Fairland finishes the regular season 18-4 including the 14-0 conference record.

The Dragons placed 11 of their 12 players in the scoring column led by Kollin Van Horn with 16 points.

Keedrick Cunningham added nine points and four rebounds while Isaiah Howell had eight rebounds and Dairus Stapleton six.

South Point (8-14, 6-8) was led by Tayshaun Fox with 10 points.

Van Horn score 12 points and Ty Staten scored all six of his points in the first quarter as Fairland jumped out to a 20-7 lead.

Cunningham scored seven points in the second quarter as Fairland outscored South Point 19-9 to open up a comfortable 39-16 halftime lead.

The Dragons extended their lead to 55-25 by outscoring the Pointers 16-9 in the third quarter. Fox scored six of South Point’s total.

Both teams will play in the Division III sectional tournament at Jackson. South Point plays Oak Hill at 6:15 p.m. on Monday with the winner facing Fairland at 6 p.m. on Friday.
