March is DD awareness month

Multiple activities planned to celebrate

COAL GROVE — The Lawrence County Board of Developmental Disabilities is gearing up for the 2016 DD Awareness Month, which kicks off in March.

The board will host several events throughout the month.

The first of those will be the annual balloon launch at 9:45 a.m. on March 1 at the Open Door School in Ironton. That day will also be Dr. Seuss Day.

The adult activities center will have an open house on Thursday, March 10, followed by the Chili Fest and Craft Show on Saturday, March 12. That will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Dawson-Bryant High School gym.

The March Madness Basketball games will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, March 22.

On April 9, there will be a 5K run/walk at The Point industrial park. That begins at 9 a.m.

Also through out the month, there will be a food drive and eyeglasses collection.

The Lawrence County Board of DD serves children and adults with developmental disabilities from throughout the county.

Services include service and support administration, early intervention for infants and toddlers, preschool services, the Open Door School for students with multiple handicaps ages 6-21 and employment, job training and other services for adults with DD through a collaborative arrangement with Tri-State Industries, Inc., a private, nonprofit corporation.
