Bobcats, Thundering Herd post wins

ATHENS (AP) — Jaaron Simmons scored 25 points and Antonio Campbell added 16 with 20 rebounds and Ohio cruised past Miami (Ohio) in the annual Battle of the Bricks on Saturday, 76-64.

Ohio (18-8, 9-5 Mid-American Conference) won its fifth-straight game to remain a solid second in MAC standings, tied with Kent State in the East Division, both a half-game back of Akron.

The Bobcats led 41-24 in the half on 54-percent shooting. Ohio finished 25-for-50 from the field with eight 3-pointers, five in the first half, and a 35-26 edge on the glass.

Campbell’s 20 rebounds are a career best for the 6-foot-8 junior, and the first time an Ohio player has grabbed 20 in a game in six years.

Dion Wade led the RedHawks (17-9, 8-6) with 16 points and Abdoulaye Harouna added 15, all in the second half. Geovonie McKnight did not play for the first time in 120 games.

Marshall 82, Old Dominion 65

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (AP) — Ryan Taylor scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Marshall beat Old Dominion 82-65 on Saturday night for their fourth-straight win and a sweep of the season series against the Monarchs.

James Kelly scored 18 points and blocked two shots, Stevie Browning added 18 and Jon Elmore had 10 assists for the Thundering Herd (15-12, 11-3 Conference USA), which made 10 of 25 from long distance and shot 50 percent from the field.

Up by eight at halftime, Marshall pulled to a 10-point lead, 48-38, on Kelly’s alley-oop dunk on Elmore’s assist, then Browning fed Kelly on another alley-oop for a 50-42 lead, firing up the crowd.

C.J. Burks’ 3-pointer sparked a 15-6 run and Marshall led by 15, 75-60, after Browning hit a pair of free throws with 3:57 left and continued to pull away.

Trey Freeman scored 20 points and Brandan Stith added 18 for the Monarchs (15-12, 8-6), who lost to Marshall 78-75 on Jan. 23.
