Pheba Faye Minix

Nov. 10, 1935 — March 2, 2016

Pheba Faye Minix, 80, of Oakland, Maryland, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Bowens Aldridge. On June 1, 1953, she married Dayton Minix, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1986.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Dayton Minix, Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Alma Glotfelty and husband Cecil of Oakland, Kathy Long of Reynoldsburg, and Irene Adkins and husband Gary, of Mt. Lookout, West Virginia; one son, Michael Landon Minix and wife Rita of Philippi, West Virginia; seven granddaughters, Stacy and Lisa Minix, both of West Virginia, Andrea Hines and husband Bill, of Oakland, Amy Neal and husband Cody, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Stephanie Poe, of North Carolina and Jamie Minix and Ashley Jones, both of Philippi; one grandson, Jeremy David Long and wife Nancy, of Columbus; seven great-grandchildren; two great-grandsons, Cameron Long, of Columbus, and Malaki.

Mrs. Minix was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Buckhannon, West Virginia. Friends will be received from noon-2 p.m. today at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with pastor Michael Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Donna Waller

May 22, 1946 — March 3, 2016

Donna Sue Waller, 69, of Ironton, died on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born May 22, 1946, the daughter of Estell and Gladys Womacks Leedy. She was a member of Church of Christ 10th and Vine.

She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gaynell Gose; and a son, Jeff Taylor. She was the wife of Jim Waller. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Lisa Church; one son, Gary Taylor; stepchildren include Teresa Lawless, Johnda Williams, Rhonda Howard, Ralph Waller; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ 10th and Vine. Jason Ridgway will officiate. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Ice Creek Cemetery. O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

William Stapleton

Sept. 26, 1927 — March, 2, 2016

William Everett “Bill” Stapleton, 88, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Bill was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Ohio Furnace, to the late Charles and Nella Barker Stapleton.

Bill was preceded in death by a son, Paul David Stapleton; three brothers, James Stapleton and Glen Stapleton, and Edward Stapleton; and four sisters, Mildred Blevins, Clotine Lavender, Thelma Otworth, and Juanita Williams; and two grandsons, Anthony Shawn Stapleton and Matthew Loudenback.

Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He retired from Western Southern Life Insurance after 28 years of service. He was also a local residential builder and contractor building and improving many houses and properties in Greenup and Boyd counties. Bill was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Flatwoods and enjoyed participating in the church choir. Bill was very dedicated to anything he was involved in and a true family man.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Marcella King Stapleton; one son, Michael Stapleton (Anna), of Flatwoods; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Jenkins, of Ashland, and Vicki Crites (Bob) of Oldtown; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Stapleton, of Ironton; two sisters, Pauline Brown, of Ironton, and Helen Gollihue, of Ohio Furnace; one stepdaughter, Carrie Wilcox, of Cataula, Georgia ; six grandchildren, Sherry Brewer (Jeff), Kim Ward (Jimmy) and John Jenkins (Angie) all of Ashland, and Lisa Estep (Ron), Lori Hartman (Todd) and Adam Stapleton (Kelena), all of Flatwoods; 15 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in Flatwoods by the pastor Jim Pridemore. Burial will follow in Buckeye Cemetery in Haverhill. Friends may call from 6-8:30 p.m. today at the church and one hour before services Saturday.

Lee Freeman

Lee Edward Freeman, 51, of Willow Wood, died Wednesday March 2, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville is in charge of arrangements.
