SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Madison Bumgarner pitched three innings in his second appearance of the spring and the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 16-7 on Tuesday night.

San Francisco’s Angel Pagan played in left field for the first time in six years and said it felt like the first time. He singled and scored.

“It was good to play a little left field and see how everything went,��� Pagan said. “It’s not the same as when they hit fungoes. The biggest thing is knowing where I have to be on every play.”

Pagan is making the move to accommodate Denard Span, who signed with the Giants as a free agent during the offseason.

“It’s a matter of getting my work done and get ready for the season,” Pagan said. “Here you can make mistakes but once the season starts you have to have it all down.”

Bumgarner gave up three runs, all in the first inning, and five hits.

“He was getting mad at himself,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “Even in spring training, the good players are demanding of themselves.”

Anthony DeSclafani started for the Reds, giving up four runs in three innings.

Scott Schebler hit a two-run homer and Reds prospect Jesse Winker also drove in a run against Bumgarner.

“We did a lot of nice things offensively,” Reds manager Bryan Price said. “Our left-handed hitters had some decent at bats against a tough lefty.”

STARTING TIME

Reds: DeSclafani wasn’t sharp with his fastball but his primary focus has been on his curveball, which was much better this time out.

“On the positive side, he threw some pretty good curveballs,” Price said. “He’s been spending a lot of time on that. His fastball was generally not very good. A lot of hard contact, a lot of bad counts.”

Giants: Bumgarner felt better about his second outing, although his cutter, usually the first pitch to come around, has been giving him trouble.

“It’s really a struggle,” Bumgarner said. “It’s usually the easiest pitch for me but this year, so far, it doesn’t feel quite right coming out of my hand. I still have plenty of time to work on it.”

He wasn’t concerned about giving up three runs on five hits, though he expects to perform better his next time out.

“I made a lot of good pitches that they hit,” he said. “Spring training always reminds you about stuff you already know. I have to work on getting some outs and not allowing runs.”

TRAINER’S ROOM

Reds: IF Zack Cozart (June knee surgery) could play this weekend. … OF Billy Hamilton (sore shoulder) missed his sixth straight game. … RHP Rafael Iglesias threw a 20-pitch simulated game Tuesday and will repeat that Friday before likely making his spring debut on Monday.

Giants: RHP Santiago Casilla will throw one more bullpen session before making his spring debut. … RHP Sergio Romo is expected to throw two more bullpens before pitching in a game.

Reds: RHP Michael Lorenzen makes his second start of the spring Wednesday in Goodyear against the Texas Rangers and RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez. Lorenzen pitched two scoreless innings in his first appearance.

Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto will make his debut in a San Francisco uniform Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies and RHP Eddie Butler.
