Kelli Jo Fields

Aug. 18, 1959 — March 7, 2016

Kelli Jo Fields, 56, of Kitts Hill, passed away March 7, 2016, at her residence. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 18, 1959, a daughter of Lawrence R. (Brenda) Fields, of Kitts Hill and the late Barbara Joan Barnett Fields.

Kelli was a 1977 graduate of Rock Hill High School and retired from the Meade Paper Plant in Chillicothe. She was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the VFW Post 8850 and also an animal lover.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Emory and Garnet Fields; and her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Florence Blair.

In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by a brother, Jeff (Judy) Fields, of Kitts Hill; a step-sister, Shannon (Bill) Dalton, of Pedro; a step-brother, Wesley (Amy) Balmer, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a niece, Samantha Fields, of Ironton; and a nephew, Joshua (Tracy) Fields, of Kitts Hill.

Funeral services will be noon Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Bill McFann officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Elroy Friend Jr.

July 7, 1924 — March 9, 2016

Elroy Friend Jr., 91, of Marion, formerly of Lawrence County, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Marion General Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born July 7, 1924, a son of the late Elroy Friend, Sr. and Dorothy Barnhart Friend Blagg. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Garnett Friend, who passed away Dec. 12, 2008.

Mr. Friend was a U.S. WWII Navy veteran and retired from Tecumseh Products and an operator. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers and the Forest Ridge Community Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Friend; five brothers, Earl Friend, Franklin Friend, John Friend, Clarence Friend and Kenneth Friend; and two sisters, Mary Friend and Hester Strait.

He is survived by two sons, Roy (Cindy) Friend, of Barnesville, and Timothy (Debbie) Friend, of Marion; a daughter, Marsha (Jim) Lambert, of Jeannette, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Roy Lee Friend Jr., Michael Friend, Ericka Friend, Timothy Friend Jr., Tonia Friend, Kaylyn Friend and Kate Lambert; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Everett (Dorothy) Friend and Danny Friend, all of La Rue; and three sisters, Reeb Layne, Dean Endicott and Jan (Kenneth) Severts, all of Marion.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Willard Blankenship and pastor Kenny Jiles officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Earl Hart

Aug. 4, 1929 — March 9, 2016

Earl W. Hart, 86, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Coal Grove native was born Aug. 4, 1929, a son of the late Clifford (Norella) Hart and Laura Thacker Hart Barnes. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Esther E. Hill Hart, whom he married Dec. 20, 1974.

Mr. Hart was a graduate of Coal Grove High School and a former air traffic controller for the U.S. Navy. He was a former supervisor for the KYOVA Pipe Company and later a security guard for Ashland Oil, Inc. He was also a member of the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church and a former member of the Wheelersburg Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Keith Hart; three brothers, Gerald “Bo” Frische, Fred Frische and Cosper Hart; and four sisters, Joanne Stevens, Joyce Hart, Faye Butler and Mary Hayes.

He is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Bob) Hart Self, of Coal Grove, Tami Hart Spurlock, of Ironton, and Tania (Mike) Hart Davis, of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Shayne Self, of Boyd County, Kentucky, Tracy Self, of Wheatfield, Indiana, Travis Self, of Cincinnati, Heather Taylor, of Ironton, and William Jonathon Davis, of Dalles, Oregon; three great-grandchildren, Brendan Self, of Coal Grove, Kody Self, of Wheatfield, Indiana, and Alexis Brockway, of Wheatfield, Indiana; a brother, Buddy Gene Frische, of Sandusky; three sisters, Rose Hensley, of Coal Grove, Margaret (Tom) Clegg, of Newburgh, New York, and Karen (Dennis) Dickess, of Coal Grove.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Klaiber officiating. Burial will follow in Junior Furnace Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be noon Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Lucille Ferris

Lucille Ellen Ferris, 80, of Chesapeake, died Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with the Rev. Eddie Salmons officiating. Jeffrey Reaper

Jeffrey Reaper, 50, of South Point, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center, Ashland. Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point.

 

Robert Clay

Robert Alton Clay, 54, of Hurricane, West Virginia, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He is survived by his wife, Angela Foutz Clay. Arrangements are pending at Chapman’s Mortuary.
