Jeffery Reaper

Jeffery Reaper, 50, of South Point, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point with pastor Bob Bradley officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home. Stephen Shears

Sept. 21, 1964 — March 7, 2016

Stephen R. Shears, 51, of Ironton, formerly of Pedro, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1964, a son of Raymond Robert Shears Sr. and the late Dianna Stamper Shears. He was a laborer by trade and a minister for the Lord. In fact he spent his life devoted to Christ. He always had a Scripture and a good laugh for everyone. Many may also know him as “The American Wonder” with Ohio Championship Wrestling.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Robert “Bobby” Shears Jr.

Steve is survived by his father and his stepmother, Christy Shears; a son, Blake Chapman, of Ironton, and Blake’s mother, Amber Tucker; three brothers, John Shears, of Texas, Jamie (Amy) Shears, of Lucasville, Justin Shears, of Ironton; 11 nieces and nephews, Howard Ray, Johnda, Ashley, Tara, Sara, Ramey, Nick, Alex, Josh, Dakota and Cadence; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with Brother David Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to help with final expenses to Brown Funeral Chapel or a Go Fund Me account also has been set up at www.gofundme.com/nnt8j6wk

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral chapel. The family has entrusted his care to Brown Funeral Chapel.

 

Dollie Borders

Jan. 6, 1930 — March 9, 2016

Dollie Caroleen Runyon Borders, 86, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The North Wilksboro, North Carolina, native was born Jan. 6, 1930, a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Bessie Wyatt Jennings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ishmael Borders, who passed away March 22, 1998.

Mrs. Borders was born and raised in North Wilksboro, but lived in Ironton since 1947. She retired in 1995 from Jo-Lin Health Center after 18 years of service and attended the City Mission Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, R. L. Jennings; and four sisters, Libby Corrina Jennings, Barbara Kay Jennings, Eleanor Rice and Frances Alene Moore.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Waddell of South Point and Carol (Alva) Knipp of Ironton; three sons, Gary W. (Carla) Runyon of Ironton, William D. “Bill” (Charlotte) Runyon of Russell, Kentucky and Charles R. “Bud” (Pat) Runyon of Ironton; four grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home. Viola Smith

Viola Ramey Smith, 91, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at River’s Bend Health Care, South Point. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville by pastor Mike Smith. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Robert Clay

Robert Alton Clay, 54, of Hurricane, West Virginia, formerly of Ironton, husband of Angela Foutz Clay, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington. Visitation is an hour before service at the church. Chapmans Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
