James Smith

May 12, 1945—March 12, 2016

James Allen Smith, 70, of Ironton, passed Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington.  The Ironton native was born May 12, 1945, the son of the late William Thomas Smith and Rosie Elliott Adkins Smith McFann.  On March 19, 1968 he married Sharon Kay Sizemore Smith and she preceded him in death on June 17, 2003.

Mr. Smith was a 1963 graduate of Symmes Valley High School and served two tours in Vietnam with the United States Army.  He retired after 30 years with Armco Steel in Ashland, Ky. in 1996 as an overhead crane operator and then worked 13 years as a security guard for the Wackenhut Corporation.  James was also a Baptist pastor for over 40 years and served several local churches in different capacities over the years.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Adkins, Harold Smith and Albert Adkins; and one sister, Mary McKenzie.

He is survived by daughter, Kathy Lynn Smith Miller of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kathy Jo Arthurs Smith of Ironton; two grandsons, Mark Andrew Miller and Benjamin Thomas Miller, both of Ironton; three sisters, Edna Richter of Omaha, Nebraska, Ethel (Dan) Murdock of Mira Loma, California, and Avis (Bill) Kuhfahl of Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers, Beecher (Marilyn) Adkins of Omaha, Nebraska and Emory (Paula) Smith of St. Albans, West Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Smith family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with pastor Gary Arthurs and pastor Matt Mayhew officiating.  Burial will have military honors provided by the V.F.W. Terry Layne

Terry Lee Layne, 57, of Pedro, died on Friday, March 11, 2016 at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton.

 

 

Vi Nicholas

Vi Nicholas, 73, of South Point, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Jerry Galloway. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park Barboursville, West Virginia. Audra Delawder

March 31, 1987—March 11, 2016

Audra Marie Delawder, 28 of Ironton, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 at home. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday st Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Jason Ridgeway, Ironton Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Audra was born March 31, 1987 in Ironton, a daughter of Charles D. and Mary K. Fugett Delawder of Ironton. She is preceded in death by a son, William David Huff.

She attended Ironton Church of Christ, was a 2005 graduate of Ironton High School and was preparing to graduate from Huntington Junior College. Audra is survived by the love of her life, her son, Tyler Noel Delawder of Ironton; a sister, Allison Delawder of Ironton; a nephew, Austin Munion; a niece, Alexandria Munion; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
