RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will be one of the participants in an event to commemorate National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ashland Town Center.
To promote colon cancer awareness, the “Incredible Colon”— an inflatable, 20 foot by 10 foot colon simulation that visitors can walk through, will be available to tour. OLBH will provide glaucoma and bone density screenings in addition to educational information concerning colon cancer screening, prevention and early detection. Information also will be available concerning genetic testing at OLBH.
Colon cancer does not discriminate. It affects both men and women equally. When colon cancer is found early and treated, the five-year relative survival rate is 90 percent. More than a million colon cancer survivors live in the United States.
