A sunrise service will be at Woodland Cemetery on Easter.
Pastor Steve Harvey of Sharon Baptist Church said that people will meet at the church on Good Friday, March 25, at noon to walk the cross to the cemetery.
“People come from all over the community,” he said. “It’s a big crowd, especially if the weather’s nice. Friday is more of a ecumenical thing.”
On Easter morning, March 27, members of Sharon Baptist and First Church of the Nazarene in Ironton will return to the cemetery at 7 a.m. for the sunrise service.
Pastor Rob Hale, of the Nazarene church, said that Harvey positions the cross so that the sun rises behind it.
“It’s really beautiful,” he said.
Harvey said the service, which has been a tradition at the church for more than 20 years, and joined last year by the Nazarene church, is open to the public.
“It’s very informal. We’re just getting up and celebrating what God gave us,” he said.
