The Ironton Senior Center hosted their Easter dinner on Monday afternoon at their location on Park Street.

About 30 seniors and their familes, some decked out in elaborate Easter bonnets, gathered, surrounded by bunnies, eggs and other springtime decorations, to enjoy the annual event. A prayer and the pledge of allegiance were conducted before the meal was served.

The dinner is one of many events scheduled throughout the year to help seniors celebrate holidays.

Mike Payne, the director for the center, said the meal was prepared by the center’s cooks, Mary Reib and Martha Crance, who he says is are quite dedicated in handling the center’s food duties.

“They do a great job,” Payne said, “They take care of the seniors and deserve credit.”

Payne said that the Ironton location also helps to provide food three days a week for the Chesapeake-Sybene senior center.

That site hosted its Easter event on Friday at First Baptist Church in Proctorville.
