ASHLAND, Ky. — Police have charged a suspect in the robbery of South Point bank.

South Point police announced Monday that David M. Martin, 31, of Ashland, was charged in Kentucky in connection with the Feb. 26 armed robbery of the U.S. Bank on Fourth Street in South Point.

Police said Martin pulled a gun on a teller and demanded cash. Video showed a suspect wearing a mask of Marvel Comics character Deadpool during the robbery.

Martin was already being held in the Greenup County Detention Center in Kentucky after being arrested by Flatwoods police on charges for an unrelated domestic incident earlier in the month, South Point police chief Chris Mahjer said.

They had named Martin as a person of interest in the bank robbery, based on their investigation, and when they learned he was in custody in Greenup, moved on charging him with armed robbery, a first degree felony, Mahjer said.

Mahjer said hearings to extradite Martin back to Ohio will likely take place, but didn’t have a timetable.
