It’s still more than a month away, but the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District is already prepping for one of its biggest events — the Lawrence Countywide Cleanup Day.
This year’s cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. on May 7.
Dan Palmer, district coordinator, said signup letters have already been sent out to those who were registered last year, but anyone who wants to join the effort is invited.
Last year, 40 groups cleaned 58 miles of roadways, gathering 813 bags of trash and 402 tons of trash in 66 roll-off containers.
“I think that’s fantastic, considering we do it all in one day,” Palmer said.
Coca-Cola will help sponsor the event again this year, as well as Life Response Team out of Portsmouth. They will grill hot dogs for volunteers.
The signup for the cleanup, contact the LSSWMD at 740-532-1231.
