TLC blooming into new year

Operation TLC (Tidy-up Lawrence County) is off and running with new officers and a new enthusiasm for 2016. Returning as president is the co-founder of the cleanup and beautification group, Billie Smith. Other officers include Mike Scholl, vice president, Steve Hutchison, treasurer, Taunya Wilson, recording secretary and co-founder and Kathie Gue, corresponding secretary.

Operation TLC was started by a few women in the Chesapeake-Proctorville area who wanted to see a cleaner and more attractive community. Through the years, the group has spruced up the villages and beyond with flower pots, banners, fall and Christmas decorations and welcome signs. Local businesses and village councilmen provided assistance to make it all happen.

“We are proud of the progress we have made but so much more is needed,” Smith said. “We have great need of people who share our passion for litter awareness and beautification. Our biggest challenge is watering the planted flowers in the upcoming spring and summer months.”
