FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Grinder isn’t just a TV show.

The Green Bobcats played grinder on Friday as they battled back to edge the Symmes Valley Vikings 6-4 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We fell behind early and we had to grind it out. We got a couple of big hits from seniors Tyler Johnson and Hunter Lewis and we played the glove real well,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“It was a well-played game. Symmes Valley came out a very different team than the other night.”

Trevor Carver got the win for Green as he went the distance. He struck out 13, walked four, gave up five hits and only two runs were earned.

Lewis went 2-3 with two runs batted in and Tanner Kimbler was 2-4 for Green.

Chayden Renfroe was 2-3 with two RBIs for the Vikings..

Laykin Gothard hit by pitcher and Cameron Meadows’ double as the Vikings went up 1-0 in the first inning.

The Vikings made it 4-0 in the top of the third.

Gothard and Payton Hayes walked to start the rally and both moved up on a wild pitch. Shawn Belville was safe on an error for a run and Renfroe followed with a two-run singled.

Green (3-3, 2-0) got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Darnell doubled and came around to score on groundouts by Johnson and Lewis.

The Bobcats tied the game in the fourth.

Josh Karshner walked, Hayden Whittis reached on a catcher’s interference and Johnson came through with a two-out, two-run double. Lewis singled to score Johnson with the tying run.

The Bobcats got the go-ahead runs in the sixth.

Lewis and Kimbler singled and Rylee Maynard drew his fourth walk of the day to load the bases, Tayte Carver hit a sacrifice fly to give Green the lead.

After an intentional walk to Trevor Carver, Whittis reached when his pop fly was dropped as two infielders collided.
